Former residence and country home in Voorburg, designed and commissioned in 1642 by the architect, poet, art connoisseur, and composer Constantijn Huygens. His son Christiaan lived in the house until his death in 1695. Christiaan Huygens was one of Holland’s most brilliant scientists. He was one of the most outstanding and distinguished mathematicians of his day, an instrument maker, astronomer and the inventor of the pendulum clock.

Huygens published his wave theory of light in the Traité de la lumière (1690), refuting Newton’s particle theory. We interviewed Vincent Icke at Hofwijck.
